Personal Narrative

Who Am I As a Writer?

Do I see myself as a writer? What makes one a writer? Growing up I thought a writer is someone who managed to publish some sort of article, someone that believes in themselves and plans things out thoroughly. I could never call myself a writer because I tend to second guess myself, which is something I always struggled with and still do, I stayed up late until four in the morning re-drafting a whole essay again because it is never ‘good’ enough. Mary, my love school is stressful, but trust me it does not get slightly better, shit is complicated this is not worth the stress and headache you would end your nights with, just so that the teacher would say it is “off-topic,” Nah I am good, not worth it. If it is good enough for us then that is how it should stay, not saying be relaxed and just give in whatever, my point is you should voice your opinions and thoughts, if you think you made yourself clear enough then it is good. If this is not convincing enough for you just know you should abide by the meaning behind our name “grace,’ grace the audience with your opinion and let them get a sneak peek of who you are as a person, and what you think is right. Who are we? What is the version that we hide from others? In a world so judgmental it is hard to step out of our comfort zone, especially knowing that there is going to be a lot of disagreement. Why waste all this time on an essay stressing out when we are still going to be doing the same thing a whole decade later, shit I have cried countless times because of the difficulty of a paper. Fucking hell, I even struggled with this assignment because I could not think of someone to target with this paper or a way to start it off. Do not let others cut off your wings by telling you, “You should do this instead of that” break that cycle, be the writer you are, tell the story you see through your eyes show them what Mariana stands for and be that fucking legend you were born to be. That is what a good writer would do. I have seen the mistakes we made together when writing a paper, I also want to break that cycle and express my opinion on a piece of paper, because what is the point of me telling my eight-year-old self to put a piece of her into her writing when I am clearly not doing the same. We can all write a paper when given the prompt, but the hard part is to be as free as we can be by including our opinion in our paper one that we can defend that is what a great writer would do. As time goes on, not only have my professors realized but so have I, that we have made progress on our form of self-expression- expression. From this talk, we have learned that there is more that makes one a writer not only because they have published a book but also because we all write our own story/ novel. We write our destiny, create plot twists, and some even throw in a little romance. I am slowly showing the writer that I am on the inside; at our own pace, we will get their Mary.
