Exploratory Essay

                             Hunt for Innocence

Our childhood is based on fairytales and the idea of finding true love, but we were too young and naive to realize that most of these tales reflect how fucked up the world is. At this age hearing them again has helped us realize that most fairy tales objectify women, make them look weak and in need of men’s help, or how deceptive some characters may be and even portray a male character to look like anything else except what they truly are, a pedophile. Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales used rhetoric to try and warn us about any danger in the real world and how few can be trusted because one does not know one true intention, although they mask it with the idea of wanting to help. Pedophiles come in all shapes and forms, they ruin our innocence and cause severe trusting issues, yet that is not enough they also managed to taint our childhood. Both Parents and children are the main targets in the Little Red Cap fairytale alerting them to the danger that surrounds them and helping them realize that pedophiles are everywhere and can get within reach of your kid if not taken the right precaution.

The analysis provided by Brother Grimm was based on the fairy tale Little Red Cap; he mentioned how it was intended to be a magical tale that could be used as a bedtime story, but it was also a warning sent out to the parents. It was a hidden message telling them that, out in the open many foxes run freely and that no child should be left out on their own. Brother Grimm used indirect language to alert the parents, hinting that it is easy for a predator to capture its next victim, in the tale little red cap the was free of any worries, yet when it is time for her to go back to her house, she is aware of any foxes that are hiding in the woods trying to have a go at her. Sadly, that is the truth, there will always be creeps out there looking to find a weak and defenseless child outside, the fact that we constantly must be looking over our shoulders is unnerving.

After years, a couple of versions of Little Red Cap have been published, but this one version, particularly stands out the most, The Little red riding hood by Charles Perrault was able to keep most details of Brother Grimm’s version yet the minor change that were made change the insight of the folk tale, when reading it, it has a darker side to the story, between the two at least Brother Grim tale kept it ‘magical’, it offers the perspective of how or what exactly a predator would think. The ‘Pretty girl” a beauty standard that was added to the tale lets it be known what type the predator goes after the most. In this version, the fox added his own point of view, the way the fox spoke of the ‘pretty girl,’ It seemed as if the fox justified his actions of taking away her innocence because she practically asked for it for holding such beauty. It changes our point of view when we dig up for more information on what the hidden message could be, there is more than a fox and a little girl, it is about the fact that there are people in the world that are willing to take away your innocence and make it seem like it was your fault.

Detective Berks is specialized in taking down pedophiles that prey on young ones through the internet. In the real world, pedophiles do not look like a fox, they are humans with fake identity profiles, that are everywhere, gaining the trust of the young ones by being their friend, that is why we must listen to the adults when they say, “don’t talk to strangers.” Little red cap was drawn in by the fox who was after her purity, the huntsman that saved both the grandma and little red cap is the detective in the real world. Detective Berks have produced a solution where he turns that role around, he is acting because he is tired of seeing the pedophiles run around freely and what is left behind is scraps of what was supposed to be a happy childhood for the victims. Those poor defenseless kids are forced to grow up quickly at an early age with trauma that was caused by dirty scumbags that take pleasure in little kids.

It is not the same now, is it? In a world that was filled with fairy tales, rainbows, and sunshine, we are now hit with the reality that there are foxes out there, and anyone can be in the situation that Little red cap was also in. Realizing now that most of the fairytales that we have heard or read are written by men where they write about their sexual fantasies using indirect language, how women are objectified and seem to be weak in the opposite gender’s eyes. The Fairy tale by Brother Grimm contained rhetoric and used indirect language to help us understand that we are not safe from those with bad intentions to show us that trusting people is a dangerous thing to do, to never lower our guard, and to stay on constant alert.
